A causal map of the major eras and turning points needed to navigate Halo history without reducing it to memorized dates.
LESSON 01
Deep Time and Inherited Consequences
Begin with eras rather than isolated dates.
Ancient conflicts
Long before the modern human era, Forerunner civilization confronted the Flood and ultimately activated the Halo Array. The installations, preserved species, and damaged galactic inheritance left by that decision shape nearly every later conflict.

History discovered out of order
Modern characters encounter ancient history through ruins, records, and living consequences. Students should distinguish the date of an ancient event from the later date when a faction discovers or misinterprets it.

The Human-Covenant War
Trace the war from first contact to the crisis of 2552.
2525: a war begins
Official Covenant chronology associates first contact with humanity in 2525 and the beginning of the Ninth Age of Reclamation. The following decades became an existential war for humanity.

2552: converging catastrophes
The fall of Reach, discovery of Installation 04, battle around Delta Halo, and Covenant civil conflict occur within the decisive final months of 2552. Cause matters: revelations about the rings and leadership decisions fracture the Covenant while the Flood crisis escalates.
Understand why 2552 ends one conflict but not galactic instability.
The Ark and war's conclusion
The alliance opposing the Prophet of Truth prevents activation of the array at the Ark. The Covenant War ends, but former allies, splinter groups, and surviving institutions pursue different futures.

Postwar powers
The postwar galaxy includes a rebuilding UNSC, Sangheili-led partners and rivals, Covenant remnants, the Banished, and later system-wide crises. Halo Infinite's Zeta Halo conflict belongs to this later landscape rather than the original unified Covenant War.
